History of the Institute

In 1983, the Salesians of Don Bosco, realising the need for training young people in technical skills, began a survey that led them to the establishing of Don Bosco Boys’Town a school for the poorest of the poor of the slums of Nairobi in 1985. The school was to train the young men and return them back to their rural areas to start small businesses.

In 1992, Don Bosco Secretarial Institute was established to train girls.

In 1994, Bosco Institute of Computer Studies (DBICS) started offering courses in computer at subsidized rates.

In 1999, The Technical Courses in Tailoring and Dressmaking were opened to the girls.

From 2001, girls will have the opportunity to be trained in other skills beginning with MVM and Electricals. Currently over 300 young people are being professionally trained at DBBT.
